Simple Guide - Mentors

What is a Mentor?

A Mentor is a member of the Marymount Network who has:

  • Signed up to the mentoring programme
  • Completed their profile and career details
  • Mentors share advice and support with others in the network.

There are two ways to mentor:

  • IB Diploma students – online messages only (for safeguarding)
  • Alumnae – no restrictions; you can communicate however you prefer
  • You can choose to do one or both.

How do I become a mentor?

To join, you need to:

  1. Opt in to mentoring
  2. Choose who you want to mentor (IB Diploma student and/or alumnae)
  3. Add a profile photo (optional)
  4. Fill in your career profile

Who can find me as a mentor?

  • Anyone on the Marymount Network can search for mentors.
  • You will only appear in searches if:
  • You’ve signed up to the programme
  • You haven’t reached your mentoring limit
  • You match what the person is looking for (e.g. industry)

How do I sign up or opt out?

  1. Sign up when registering, or via the Careers & Mentoring page
  2. Go to My Profile (click your name after logging in)

There you can:

  1. Choose how you want to help (e.g. careers advice, interview prep)
  2. Set how many people you can support
  3. Pause mentoring for 30 days
  4. Leave the programme completely

Updating your profile

In My Profile, you can:

  • Add work and education details
  • Update your experience and industry
  • Upload a photo (recommended)
  • This helps match you with the right people.

What if I change my mind?

Go to My Settings to opt out at any time.

How will I know if someone contacts me?

You’ll get:

  • A message via Marymount Network (My Messages)
  • An email notification
  • The email will include:
  • A message from the person
  • Options to accept or decline
  • If you accept, you’ll be taken to your messages to reply.

What happens after I accept?

For IB Diploma pupils:

  • You must communicate through the Marymount Network only
  • Messages are monitored for safeguarding

For alumnae:

  • You can communicate however you like
  • In all cases, respond through the email link first so the system can track activity.
