Mentor Code of Conduct

Please follow these simple guidelines to keep mentoring safe, supportive, and effective.

Your role as a mentor

  • Support your mentee with guidance, questions, and encouragement
  • Help them reflect and make their own decisions
  • Share feedback and point them in the right direction
  • Your mentee’s role
  • Set goals and work towards them
  • Use you as a sounding board
  • Be open and engaged in the process
  • Be respectful and professional
  • Both mentors and mentees should communicate with kindness, respect, and consideration at all times.

Safeguarding & communication

For IB Diploma pupils:

  • Only communicate via Marymount Network (written messages only)
  • Do not share or request personal contact details or social media
  • Messages may be monitored for safety
  • These rules apply until the pupil leaves school.

For alumnae:

  • You can communicate in any way that suits you both

Mentoring approach

  • Be honest about your experience
  • Don’t feel you need to have all the answers
  • Focus on helping your mentee think things through and build confidence

Feedback

You may be asked to complete a short feedback form to help improve the programme.
