We are lucky enough to witness first-hand the transformative power of the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) component of the IB Diploma Programme (DP) at Marymount. CAS encourages students to step beyond the confines of the classroom, embracing a holistic approach to learning that extends into their personal, social, and global communities.
Creativity is the lifeblood of innovation, the spark that ignites new ideas and perspectives. In the CAS context, creativity manifests in myriad forms, from artistic expression to problem-solving ingenuity. Students engage in activities that foster their imagination, exploring diverse mediums such as painting, music, writing, and design. They are encouraged to experiment, take risks and challenge conventional thinking, developing their creative confidence and self-expression.
Physical activity is not just about exercise; it’s about holistic well-being, fostering mental clarity, emotional resilience, and social connections. CAS encourages students to engage in a variety of physical pursuits, from team sports to individual fitness activities. They learn the importance of physical activity for personal health and develop a lifelong appreciation for movement and healthy habits.
Service is the cornerstone of CAS, providing students with opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to their communities. Through service engagements, students develop empathy, compassion, and a sense of social responsibility. They engage with local organizations, charities and community initiatives, addressing a wide range of social and environmental issues.
